The Orange County Water District, based in Fountain Valley, reported that ground water production from more than 20 cities and water agencies in north and central Orange County increased to about 116 billion gallons during the period from July 1, 1998, to June 30, 1999--a 9% increase over the previous year. Usage during the previous water year totaled about 107 billion gallons. About 325,900 gallons supplies the water needs of two Orange County families for a year.

With the increasing use of ground water in the county, more emphasis will be put on water conservation and reuse, said Irv Pickler, president of the district’s board of directors.
