Mayor Ken Ryan, who joined the City Council on April 4, said Wednesday he is ready to sit down with fellow council members today and discuss matters in closed session related to City Manager Arthur C. Simonian.

“But I’m not ready to vote on it yet,” Ryan said. “I hope we have some resolution or at least direction on this issue in about two weeks.”

The private discussion on Simonian will take place during today’s special City Council meeting beginning at noon at City Hall. Simonian, now on paid administrative leave, is in the midst of a legal battle with the city, which is suing him to recover as much as $300,000 in bonuses he allegedly paid himself without proper authorization. Simonian has denied any wrongdoing and is suing to get his job back.

Ryan said he has been reviewing investigative reports, depositions and other documents related to the city manager. He said he has also spoken with the city’s special counsel Henry Kraft and Simonian’s attorney, Craig Scott.

“I’ve been doing my homework,” he said. “Now, it all depends on how our discussions go.”
