Inmates in Argentina Get a Big Head Start
Thirteen inmates escaped from a local jail Thursday, and their breakout went unnoticed for hours until local workers pointed out a hole in the jail wall to guards.
The inmates broke through the wall to escape from a police lockup in Rosario, about 180 miles northwest of Buenos Aires, national news agency Diarios y Noticias reported.
The guards had taken a count of prisoners the night before, but the escape went undetected until 8 a.m. Thursday, when three workers arrived at a warehouse next door and noticed the hole, the news agency said.
Most of the escapees were being held pending trial on charges such as robbery, police were quoted as saying.
