Class-Action Suit Filed Against Rezulin Maker

Lawyers for a woman who says her mother died after taking the diabetes drug Rezulin filed a federal class-action lawsuit against the manufacturer, claiming the company misled consumers about the drug’s risks. The law firm Charfoos & Christensen filed the suit against Warner-Lambert Co. and its subsidiary, Parke-Davis, in U.S. District Court on behalf of Kimberly Kent, whose mother, Virginia Kent of Detroit, died. Warner-Lambert in March complied with a Food and Drug Administration request to withdraw Rezulin after the drug was linked to 61 deaths and seven liver transplants. About 750,000 people have taken the drug, which went on the market in 1997. The lawsuit alleges that Rezulin remained on the market too long because Warner-Lambert and Parke-Davis withheld information about its adverse effects.
