Australian Firm Sues Biopool Over Patent

Biopool International in Ventura said it is being sued by an Australian company that claims Biopool’s manufacture and sale of D-dimer test kits in the United States constitute a patent infringement.

The lawsuit was filed by Agen Biomedical Ltd., a subsidiary of Biotech International Ltd., in U.S. District Court in San Francisco last month.

Michael D. Bick, Biopool’s chairman and chief executive, said he believes the complaint is without merit.

Biopool manufactures test kits to assess and diagnose blood disorders, plus products to monitor drug abuse. The products are sold to hospitals, clinical laboratories, commercial reference laboratories and research institutions.
