Universal Electronics Inc.:

The Cypress supplier of universal remote controls and other devices for home video and audio equipment, said net income for the first quarter rose to a record $1 million, or 7 cents a share, from $449,000, or 3 cents a share, for the 1999 first quarter. Sales grew 9% to $22.7 million.
