Millionaire’s Family Wins L.A. Settlement

The family of millionaire Donald Scott, who was shot to death in a narcotics raid on his sprawling Ventura County ranch, won a $4-million settlement from the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors on Tuesday.

The 1992 raid turned up no drugs, and Scott’s family and the Ventura County district attorney’s office said authorities had apparently launched the operation hoping to seize Scott’s 200-acre ranch under narcotics-asset forfeiture laws.

In January, Los Angeles County and the federal government agreed to settle the family’s lawsuit for $5 million, with the county paying $4 million and the federal government the rest. Supervisors approved their share of the settlement Tuesday without comment.
