McALESTER, Okla.--Ronald Keith Boyd, who shot an Oklahoma City police officer to death after a convenience store robbery, was executed Thursday by injection, an Oklahoma state prison spokesman said.

Boyd, 43, was pronounced dead eight minutes after receiving an injection of chemicals, Oklahoma Department of Corrections spokesman Jerry Massie said.

It was the 24th execution since Oklahoma reinstated the death penalty in 1977 and resumed executions in 1990.

“I want to tell my family I love them. I’m all right, I’m at peace with God, I’m fine,” Boyd said in his last statement.

He earlier had a final meal of catfish, French fries, plums, strawberry shortcake, grapes and a cherry Sprite.

Boyd was convicted for the 1986 murder of Officer Richard Riggs, shot after he and his partner, investigating a convenience store robbery, confronted Boyd at a gas station near Oklahoma City.
