Sean Thomas, a senior starting second baseman at El Camino Real High, was arrested Saturday in Las Vegas on suspicion of sexual assault involving a girl under 16, police said.

Thomas, 18, was released pending a decision by the Clark County district attorney whether to prosecute.

Thomas has been suspended by El Camino Real and did not play this week in a two-game series against Chatsworth.

Thomas was arrested Saturday morning after police were called to the Treasure Island Hotel, said Lt. Tom Monahan of the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police.

“The victim and the suspect became acquainted and it would appear the sexual assault occurred in the suspect’s room,” Monahan said.

The girl is 14, according to Monahan. Sexual assault on a person under 16 is a class A felony in Nevada.

Robert Lucherini, an attorney representing Thomas, denied that a sexual assault took place.

“There are a lot of questions that haven’t been answered,” he said. “Certainly, there’s going to be some serious issues about the credibility of this girl.”

El Camino Real was in Las Vegas playing in the Bishop Gorman tournament.

Another Conquistador player, starting third baseman Beau Savage, was suspended for two games this week for breaking a team rule in Las Vegas but is expected to return on Tuesday.
