Gay and Lesbian Center to Present Awards

* The Gay and Lesbian Community Center has announced winners of its Community Service Awards, sponsored in part by Gold Coast Business and Professional Alliance.

* Corporate Service Award--Kinko’s, in recognition of the company’s nondiscrimination policy and domestic partnership benefits program.

* Drew Setterfield AIDS Service Award--Dr. John Prichard, director of medical services for Ventura County Medical Center’s Immunology Clinic.

* Mark Vartanian AIDS Advocacy Award--Coral Norton of Port Hueneme, a board member of AIDS Care Inc.

* Carol Chandlee Women’s Health Services Award--Mary Jones, coordinator of the student health center at Oxnard College.

* Lesbigay Community Service Award--Lois and Jean Story for their dedication to Parents and Friends of Lesbians and Gays; Kevin Winger and Rev. Craig Chapman for their dedication to the gay and lesbian community; Gold Coast Bowlers for providing a safe, social outlet for community members.

The fifth annual awards presentation will be held May 5 at the Four Points Sheraton Harbortown in Ventura. Betty DeGeneres, author of “Love, Ellen,” is this year’s honorary chairwoman of the event.

Grant to Help Arts Alliance Buy Software

* Alliance for the Arts, the nonprofit fund-raising arm of the Thousand Oaks Civic Arts Plaza, received a $25,000 grant from Wood-Claeyssens Foundation. The money will be used to underwrite the purchase of a new computer software management system.
