Small Airports
* As a professional pilot and flight instructor I read “Under the Flight Path” (April 21) with great interest. Despite the apparent dangers portrayed regarding living near airports, the risks are very small indeed.
Southern California’s airports 30 to 40 years ago all had virtually one thing in common--they were located in outlying areas surrounded by farmland. If there is any blame whatsoever to be apportioned for the risks that residents may feel regarding the noise and safety issues of living near an airport, it rests solely with local governments allowing residential zoning on the approach and departure paths of our local airports.
