Perhaps it was the splendid blue of a Sunday afternoon after many weekends of depressing winter weather. Perhaps the prospective young artists--or their parents--got cold feet about diving into the depths of the unconscious. Despite dozens of reservations, only four kids arrived for “Inkblots and Dreams,” the family art workshop that celebrated the launch earlier this month of the “Sigmund Freud: Conflict and Culture” exhibit at the Skirball Cultural Center. And one of these artists, an eighth-grader from Palms Middle School, left the workshop with her id/ego/superego collage unfinished. Fortunately, the trio that remained managed to produce art--and bravura interpretations--worthy of the French surrealists.
