No Choice
Re “Campbell Asks GOP Tolerance on Abortion,” July 26: Rep. Tom Campbell likens the pro-choice movement to the civil rights struggles of the ‘50s and ‘60s. An important accomplishment of the civil rights movement was to make it clear that minorities are fully human and have the same rights as everyone else. Some people, who had a lower opinion of blacks and other minorities, wanted to treat them as lesser humans with lesser rights; but the civil rights movement made it clear we have no right, and no choice, to treat them as lesser humans.
Campbell compares this to a pro-choice movement whose goal is to give people the right to “choose” whether an unborn child is treated as less than human with no rights. What cruel irony.
