MANHATTAN, Kan. — Kansas State junior tackle Anthony Bates died Monday after being involved in a automobile accident just before noon near the campus.
Bates’ pickup, going south, crossed into the northbound lane and struck a car, then continued on and struck two parked cars before coming to a stop, police said.

A management information systems major, Bates earned academic honors on the Big 12 Commissioner’s Honor Roll in three semesters. He was an all-state player at Mountain Pointe High School in Phoenix, graduating in 1997.
Bates was an Eagle Scout and a member of the National Honor Society and Fellowship of Christian Athletes. He is survived by his parents.
