Why Protest?

* “Boot Camp for Roving Protesters” (July 28) was very thought-provoking. Why don’t these people vote for what they believe in? If they’re as organized as they seem to be, it would seem they could do more for their cause as a caucus similar to the black caucus or the Latino political groups that are very effective without creating havoc.

Who are these people? Who is footing their bill? What is their true goal? I think chaos and destruction (so the LAPD once again can wrongfully be accused).
If these protesters have legitimate issues, why are they not protesting all year long? Why only now, when the Democratic “party” is in town? We don’t need the convention anyway--Al Gore is running unopposed. So let’s cancel the convention and pull the rug from under the protesters’ feet.
