* Peter Singer’s Aug. 1 letter about a DMV online-renewal surcharge didn’t match my experience. Recently I received a vehicle registration renewal notice which offered the choice of renewal via the Internet or by mail. I found the renewal via the Internet to be a very simple, easy-to-manage task, and there was no “$4 convenience fee.” Perhaps Singer and I were part of different test markets.

I found the convenience of using the DMV’s Internet renewal system to be the best experience I have ever had with the DMV. The DMV is an organization that the public loves to hate, but from my recent experience, it deserves a “well done” for easing the task of vehicle registration renewal.
