BOSTON —
A dead robin infected with the West Nile virus has been found in a Boston neighborhood, confirming mosquitoes are spreading the potentially fatal disease locally, Massachusetts authorities said Saturday.
The revelation in Massachusetts comes as U.S. officials reported this year’s first human case of West Nile virus. A 78-year-old Staten Island, N.Y., man was recovering at his home after a week in the hospital.
West Nile is spread to humans by the bite of a mosquito.
