Photo Leads to Arrest in Festival Shooting
A Massachusetts man charged with shooting his girlfriend’s former husband at a Puerto Rican festival in Providence, R.I., and wounding a 13-year-old boy and two other bystanders was ordered held in a Boston jail. His arrest came after a newspaper photographer from the Providence Journal, assigned to take photos at the street fair, snapped a photo of him carrying a gun in one hand, fleeing the scene. “We have probably one of the best pieces of evidence that the city of Providence Police Department has ever had,” Providence Mayor Vincent A. Cianci Jr. said. David Fontanes, 38, of Boston’s Roslindale neighborhood, was on probation for assault with a dangerous weapon when he surrendered to Roxbury police.
