Elizabeth Taylor has been hospitalized in Los Angeles for treatment of pneumonia since last week, a spokesman disclosed Tuesday.

The actress was admitted Friday to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center with what was diagnosed as a mild case of pneumonia, said publicist Warren Cowan.

“She’s expected to be out by the end of the week, they tell us,” he said.

Taylor, 68, has had repeated health problems in recent years, including back injuries and lengthy recuperation from hip surgeries. She had brain surgery in 1997 to remove a benign tumor. She won Academy Awards for her roles in “Butterfield 8” in 1960 and “Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?” in 1966.
