CLU Dorm Won’t Be Ready for Fall Start

Construction of Cal Lutheran University’s newest dormitory is nearing completion, but officials said it won’t be ready by the time school starts Aug. 29.

The $6-million residence hall is part of a 20-year master plan to improve university facilities, CLU spokeswoman Lynda Fulford said.

The dorm will probably be opened by mid-October, she said.

With about 900 students living on campus--more than half of the 1,500 undergraduates--the university had to accommodate them, Fulford said.

“We’ve got a larger number of freshmen coming in each year,” she said. “It’s a good leap for us.”

The 34,000-square-foot residence hall will house 120 students, mostly seniors, who applied by lottery for the housing earlier this year, Fulford said.

The 40-year-old campus will get a face lift over the next two decades. The master plan, which was approved by the Thousand Oaks City Council last year, calls for improvements costing $30 million to $50 million.
