Convention Film to Honor Carter’s Legacy

At Vice President Al Gore’s invitation, former President Jimmy Carter will attend the Democratic convention in Los Angeles and will be featured in a five-minute film paying tribute to his service as president and his achievements since leaving the Oval Office, a source close to Carter said.
Carter, who did not attend the 1996 party convention, had not planned to attend this year’s session until Gore called him last Thursday morning after the Republican convention paid tribute to former Presidents Ford, Reagan and Bush in two short films. Carter will be accompanied by former First Lady Rosalynn Carter.
The convention has scheduled the Carter tribute for Monday evening, the same night President Clinton and First Lady Hillary Rodham Clinton are scheduled to address the convention.
