Four nonprofit organizations and two county agencies have stepped in to try to help homeless people living on the 13-acre Lower Rosan Ranch.
“The handful of folks there need one-on-one, individualized assistance,” said Karen Roper, county homeless coordinator. “Their immediate needs have to be taken care of before we can address long-term goals, so we’ll start small and link them to services that provide health care and food, then talk about long-term goals and go from there.”
The city-owned property north of Stonehill Drive and west of Camino Capistrano is the site of numerous homeless camps and is scheduled for development.
The City Council decided last month to go ahead with an environmental study of the possible effects of using the site for a Home Depot store.
