Cheery Hillary Clinton Appears on ‘Tonight Show’

A giggly and lighthearted Hillary Rodham Clinton appeared on the “Tonight Show With Jay Leno” on Friday, talking up her U.S. Senate campaign, praising Al Gore’s accomplishments as vice president and then demanding to know what Jay Leno intends to joke about after she and her husband leave the White House.
Leno, who started the show with an uncharacteristically Clinton-free monologue, apologized to the first lady for all the cracks he has made at the Clintons’ expense over the years. He said he never imagined that the butt of those jokes would be sitting beside him.
“Here I am,” said Clinton, with a little wave.
Of her Senate campaign in New York, Clinton said, “I’m having a great time. . . . I get yelled at to go home in 62 different languages.”
Clinton will speak Monday, the opening night of the Democratic convention, followed by the president. She joked that her notoriously long-winded husband “may be done by Wednesday.”
