Young Girls Need Better Role Models

Share

If parents, caregivers and a youth marketing director can conclude that young girls who imitate Britney Spears (“Sugar and Spice With Navels in Sight,” Aug. 4) are “wholesome” and that they “need to have [this kind of] fun” as they watch the sex symbol “gyrate around” while clad in sexualized makeup and clothing, then I encourage them to practice what they preach and support these same children when they date at 11 and become parents at 13.

How about we all take responsibility for sending appropriate messages to our young people? Let’s start by featuring more options in the press of role models for these same little girls who currently look to Britney Spears for answers.
