Upgrade May Cause More EBay Glitches

From Bloomberg News

EBay Inc., the largest Internet auction company, said glitches that have plagued its Web site in the last week might continue as it upgrades computers and software used to run the operations.

“The system may be just a little bit unpredictable over the next seven to 10 days as we make improvements to the site,” said Kevin Pursglove, an EBay spokesman.

A number of features on EBay’s site, including the ability to list items and view bid histories, have had sporadic problems since the beginning of August, EBay users said. Last week, the San Jose-based company had to switch to backup servers after auctions were stopped for 35 minutes.

EBay has been moving functions from its main servers to other computers, Pursglove said. It is installing new software and changing site designs and offerings during recent months.
