A carnival benefiting the Los Angeles Department of Recreation and Parks will be held Friday through Sunday at North Hollywood Park.

Starscene Fiesta 2000, sponsored by the Universal City-North Hollywood Chamber of Commerce, will feature rides, games, food, a petting zoo and arts and crafts booths.

Rock groups Kelly’s Lot, Asa Cruz, Canary, Jabberbox, Gene Butler, Lisa Johnson and Captain Pants are scheduled to perform.

“The chamber sees this as an opportunity to give back to the community that supports its local businesses,” organizer Pat Anderson said.

The carnival, first held in 1987, draws more than 20,000 people each year, said John McRae, event coordinator.

“The community loves it, the kids love it,” McRae said. “They get to see some entertainment, ride all the rides and enjoy themselves.”

Proceeds will be used to fund park maintenance and summer programs, as well as Chamber of Commerce activities.

The free event will be from 5 to 11 p.m. Friday and 1 to 11 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at the park on the corner of Magnolia Boulevard and Tujunga Avenue in North Hollywood. For more information, call (818) 508-5155.
