The Parks and Recreation Commission voted this week to recommend that the City Council adopt an official city flower and tree.

They are recommending the city flower be bougainvillea, a shrubby, evergreen vine that grows lavender, pink, red, yellow and white blooms. The tree recommended by the commission is the jacaranda, which grows to 40 feet and bears lavender-blue blossoms. Both are found throughout the city and are “easily recognizable,” city staffers said.
