* Leo W. Gariepy; Retired Massachusetts Firefighter

Leo Wilfred Gariepy of Ventura, a retired firefighter who had Parkinson’s disease for several years and had not recovered from surgery five months ago, died Aug. 11. He was 87.

He was born Dec. 15, 1912, in Fall River, Mass., and had seven brothers and sisters.

Gariepy was a Fall River firefighter for 35 years. His hobbies included carpentry, macrame and handyman work. He also loved to play cribbage, pitch, dominoes and golf.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Albina.

Gariepy is survived by daughters Jo-Anne Gariepy and Michelle Bleuel of Ventura and Celeste Bryant of Lutz, Fla.; a sister, Georgette Provost of Swansea, Mass.; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Services are scheduled at 3 p.m. Friday at Sacred Heart Church in Ventura. Following the service, a gathering of friends and family is scheduled at the Bleuel home.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to ARC, Ventura Avenue Facility, Senior Center Division, 5101 Walker St., Ventura, CA 93003.

Arrangements are under the direction of Joseph P. Reardon Funeral Home in Ventura.
