L.A. County Voids Newhall Ranch OK
Responding to a June court decision Tuesday, the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors formally withdrew its approval of the largest residential development in Los Angeles County history, the Newhall Ranch project in the Santa Clarita Valley.
Ventura County had sued L.A. County to block the 21,000-unit development on the county line near the Santa Clara River.
The Los Angeles supervisors’ move Tuesday is a formality that complies with the orders of the Kern County Superior Court judge who heard the case and ruled that the environmental impact of the project needs further scrutiny.
The board’s action withdraws part of its approval of the environmental impact report that would have authorized construction. Now the county must demonstrate there is sufficient water available for the project, analyze the development’s impact on Ventura County traffic and study four other areas.
The board passed the motion without discussion.
