The city is finishing up a monthlong project installing filters in the city’s estimated 405 public storm drains.
United Stormwater Inc. has installed about 317 filters at a cost of about $111,000, or $350 per filter.
The filters are designed to catch large debris such as leaves or soda cans that end up in the drain system.
Another type of filter, “fossil” filters, is designed to capture debris as well as gas and oil. Kristar Enterprises of Santa Rosa installed 150 of these filters at a cost of about $50,000, or $333 per filter.
The city earmarked the fossil filters for areas such as parking lots that are prone to oil and gas in runoff.
