* Alfresco Theater--The acclaimed Will Geer Theatricum Botanicum production of Shakespeare’s “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” will open Friday for its sixth consecutive year at the rustic amphitheater in Topanga. The Bard’s classic comedy is well suited for the entire family and for the Theatricum’s hillside-enclosed stage. Show times: Friday evenings at 8, through Sept. 29. From Oct. 1-22, the production will play each Sunday afternoon at 3. A special Labor Day performance will be staged Monday at 6 p.m. The venue is at 1419 N. Topanga Canyon Blvd. $7-$20, under 5 free. * Western Music--The Autry Museum of Western Heritage will feature music of the southwest throughout Labor Day weekend. Serenata Mexicana will perform songs of the west and old Mexico Saturday; the Lucky Stars do old-time and contemporary western swing Sunday; and the Tejano music of Conjunto los Pochos will be featured Monday. * Community Event--The “Stop Hate Crime and Gun Violence in Our Valley” parade and concert are slated Sunday at Woodley Avenue Park in Encino. Sponsored by Redeemed From Alcohol and Drugs, the Los Angeles Human Relations Commission, Supervisor Zev Yaroslavsky and others, the event will begin at 10 a.m. with a parade along Victory Boulevard, from Balboa Boulevard to Woodley Avenue, followed by free concerts in the park. Speakers will include Yaroslavsky, L.A. Police Chief Bernard Parks, Councilwoman Cindy Miscikowski, Los Angeles Human Relations Commission Executive Director Joe Hicks and others. * Crossing Cultures--Guitarist-singer Gerard Edery and oud player George Mgrdichian will perform traditional Judeo-Spanish, Turkish, Armenian and Arab music Wednesday, 8 p.m., at the University of Judaism, 15600 Mulholland Drive, in the Sepulveda Pass.
