50 Reportedly Killed in Moluccas Clash
Fifty people were killed in a battle between Muslims and Christians in the Moluccas, said Indonesia’s national police spokesman Brig. Gen. Saleh Saaf. Local government officials had no information about the clash. Last week, at least five people were killed after armed groups attacked passenger boats off the provincial capital, Ambon. Almost two years of sectarian fighting in the Moluccas, or Spice Islands, has killed thousands of Christians and Muslims. The chain of islands is about 1,600 miles northeast of Jakarta, the capital.
