* James E. Acevedo, president, NEED board of directors, gave the position of the developers involved in the 56-unit Lakeview Manor affordable housing project (“Northeast Valley’s Housing Crisis,” Letters to the Valley Edition, Nov. 26). I do not speak for the entire community, but I would like to bring other facts forward.

Ground has already been broken for the development on Foothill Boulevard. In the immediate area, the Salvation Army will construct a 90-unit senior citizens complex, which will be across the street from the future Children’s Museum and public library sites. Habitat for Humanity will construct 53 affordable units in the same area. There are already 490 low- to moderate-priced apartments in Lake View Terrace.

At the Planning Commission’s meeting, there were people from the surrounding areas of Lake View Terrace who were in favor of the project. Many of these people seemed to be connected to other projects sponsored by the developer. The people against the project being built at this particular location were all from Lake View Terrace.

I am sure NEED has been instrumental in developing affordable housing throughout Los Angeles, and should be commended. I only question the feasibility of this particular site, . . . a place already determined to have many traffic safety problems.

Concerning the “rehashing of old news stories about the personalities involved in the project,” every community deserves to know as much as possible about what and who is coming into its area. I as a citizen am concerned about any involvement of our elected officials with any developers that raises questions.
