The first week of India’s unilateral cease-fire in Kashmir started and ended with lethal bombings in the conflict-stricken region.

Militant separatists claimed responsibility for an explosion Monday that killed a soldier and a civilian, two of the five people slain on the seventh day of the cease-fire during the Muslim holy month of Ramadan. On the first day, a land-mine blast and other attacks claimed 13 lives. Twenty-five people died during the first week of the cease-fire.

More violence followed Tuesday when troops stormed an Indian security camp. Two militants who had killed six officers were slain. Another militant who tried to force his way into another army camp also was killed.
