Ventura College instructor Charles William Kelly died Tuesday at his home in Ventura, surrounded by his children and grandchildren. He was 75.

Kelly was born Oct. 25, 1925, in Manchester, Ill., to Mary Margaret Price and Orville Charles Kelly.

Kelly attended schools in Illinois and was a gunner’s mate third class in World War II.

He taught an electrician’s program at Ventura College for 20 years. He also was a ham radio operator. He worked for his father-in-law, Jack Strobel, for 25 years and later owned his own television repair business and an electric contracting business with his son, Bill Kelly.

Kelly retired in 1991 after spending 10 years as a senior electrical inspector for the city of Ventura. He was a mason in the 633 Masonic Lodge and a Shriner in Ventura. His family cited his love of fishing with friends Dick Percy and Oscar Esmaili.

Kelly is survived by his wife of 54 years, Jacqueline Renee Strobel Kelly of Ventura; his son, Bill Kelly of Ventura; three daughters, Linda Spencer of Ventura, Suzanne Kelly of Fort Bragg and Betty Kelly of Ventura; a brother, Paul Kelly of Georgia; two sisters, Sharon Middendorf of Illinois and Francis Herrmann of New York; and several cousins, nieces and nephews, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

A graveside service is scheduled for 2 p.m. today at Ivy Lawn Cemetery in Ventura.
