Weather in Chicago Cancels O.C. Flights

Share

Blizzard conditions in Chicago caused the cancellation Monday of a majority of flights involving United and American airlines, officials said.

At John Wayne Airport, most departures to and arrivals from Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport were canceled throughout the day as a winter storm continued to pummel that city, airport spokeswoman Ann Gill-McCarley said. However, a few flights were able to make their schedules.

Airline officials urged customers traveling to and from Chicago to check on flights before heading to the airport.

More than 8 inches of snow have fallen in Chicago “and it’s increasing,” said Stan Wasowski, a forecaster for the National Weather Services.

“The big story is the wind. My lord, gusts up to 28 miles per hour with a temperature of minus 2--that’s really cold,” Wasowski said. Today is expected to be sunny and clear, Wasowski said.
