A Tustin man accused of making death threats against singer Moon Zappa pleaded not guilty Monday in a Santa Ana courtroom.

Timothy Mark Brownfield, 39, was arrested Thursday on suspicion of sending a letter to the FBI threatening to kill Zappa. Brownfield claimed that Zappa and her late father Frank Zappa stole the lyrics to the 1982 hit song “Valley Girl” from him, authorities said.

At the request of his attorney, Brownfield was transferred to the Metropolitan Detention Center in Los Angeles for a psychiatric evaluation.
