From Times Wire Reports

An appeals court dropped homicide and kidnapping charges against Augusto Pinochet, leaving the former dictator’s legal fate in the hands of the Supreme Court. The 85-year-old retired general is battling accusations stemming from massive human rights abuses during his 1973-90 rule. His lawyers claimed he was illegally indicted because he was not questioned beforehand or tested to determine his fitness to stand trial. A ruling on the prosecutors’ appeal to the high court could be issued as early as Thursday.
