Teachers Certified by National Board

Share

Four teachers from Santa Paula and another six from Oxnard have been certified by the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards.

Teachers voluntarily apply for certification, which involves a rigorous evaluation that takes nearly a year to complete. The board appraises teachers on their knowledge of subject matter, effectiveness of teaching methods and ability to keep their classrooms under control.

Teachers Lisa Darling, Joan Ward, Jackie Kwasney and Diane Coene earned certification in the Santa Paula Elementary School District. The teachers certified in the Oxnard Elementary School District are Cynthia Garcia-Doane, Dori Maria Jones, Andrea Pulido, Sharon Daly, Suzanne Kahler and Linda Prewitt.

“They deserve the highest of praise,” Oxnard Elementary Supt. Richard Duarte said. “They were willing to undertake a grueling task to improve their own performance and to encourage their colleagues to pursue the same high ideals as theirs.” There are 440 teachers in California who received such certification this year.

Founded in 1987, the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards is an independent, nonprofit organization that aims to establish high goals and standards for teachers.
