Farmer’s Daughter: I have a 7-year-old daughter, Molly, so a lot of our weekends revolve around her soccer schedule. But if there isn’t a match on Saturday, we like to go to Farmer’s Market on Fairfax at 3rd Street and just roam around there. My aunt and uncle used to have an Orange Julius stand there when I was a kid. So I’ll cruise around and see my friend, whose parents had Patsy’s Pizza--still the best pizza in the city. Real Italian stuff. Or, we’ll go to Du-Par’s and have a short stack.

Art Depot: We also like to go to MOCA or LACMA, and I’m looking forward to seeing the “Made in California” exhibit at LACMA. On Saturday evenings, lately, friends that are artists have had shows at Bergamot Station. I’m mostly interested in photography, like the work of Bernice Abbott, and they have a lot of great photo exhibits. Bergamot is an old train station that has been converted into about 16 studios and galleries in Santa Monica. They even have some avant-garde theater there. It’s a great little cultural center in my neighborhood.

The Real Deal: We like to eat dinner at Divino, this great Italian restaurant in a strip mall in Barrington Court. It doesn’t look like anything, but when you go in, you can tell it’s great. You know how you can really tell, by the way things smell like fresh pasta. And it’s always packed.

A Holiday Mission: This time of year I always go out to the San Fernando Mission Cemetery, where my parents are buried--but so is Ritchie Valens. It’s right behind the mission. At anything that’s even a semblance of a holiday--it’s sort of a Latino place--so it gets really decorated. There are little fences and lights. They put cars out, just incredible things. I recommend it during the holidays as a drive-through. At Christmas, these people go all out. It’s like a fiesta. It’s good. I’m glad my parents are there.
