Tech Immigrants’ Effect on Economy

Share

* Re “Tech Immigrants Boost Economy,” Dec. 18.

Margaret Talev’s article fails to mention what the immigration of thousands of high-tech [workers]--usually paid less--is doing to U.S. workers who are underemployed or not able to find tech work.

The H-1B visa program, which allows the foreign workers to come, is riddled with fraud and abuse. Congress has not chosen to give the Department of Labor the authority to fix the program and stop the abuses.

Talev should have told the whole truth about this alleged “boost”--that it has dramatically affected the ability of our home-grown workers to find employment in the industry.

The truth is that no American workers could be employed and the system could still now admit 195,000 foreign workers yearly to take high-tech jobs.
