A powerful bomb exploded in a congested market in the southern city of Karachi on Friday, killing a child and injuring 10 other people, Pakistani police said.

No one took responsibility for the bomb, which shattered windows in nearby apartment buildings. Police suspect that attackers were targeting the offices of a radical Islamic group fighting in Indian-ruled Kashmir.

The bomb, hidden beneath a shopping cart, was the sixth to rock Pakistan in the last week. On Monday, bombs exploded in four cities, injuring 45 people. On Wednesday, a fifth bomb exploded.

The Pakistani authorities have blamed India for the previous explosions.

The disputed Kashmir region is the most contentious issue between the two neighbors, who have fought two wars over it. India and Pakistan both claim Kashmir in its entirety.

India accuses Pakistan of fomenting violence on its Kashmir territory, a charge denied by the government in Islamabad. However, most of the militant Islamic groups waging war to end Indian rule in the Himalayan territory are headquartered in Pakistan.
