Two Sides to the Story on World’s Coolest Game

Michael Helwig’s letter last Saturday [Dec. 23] was as amusing as it was inaccurate. Hockey does, in fact, have severe supplemental rules that address a player’s actions which may fall outside the lines of fair play. Does the name Marty McSorley, he of the one-year suspension and mega-fine, ring a bell?
And since you mention baseball as a shining example, explain how the boys of summer have had far more bench-clearing incidents than hockey in preceding years.

Hey, Stu Nahan, where ya been? I agree with T.J. Simers about hockey. I too think the games are boring. I associate hockey with wrestling. It’s nothing but a big show. All the sticks swishing around, the fights, it is atrocious--like wrestling. At times they get a chance to hit some pucks into the net, then they go around hugging and kissing each other just like soccer, another dreadful sport.
