Compaq, Dell Cut Prices

Seeking to regain momentum in its money-losing commercial desktop PC business, Compaq said it cut prices as much as 13% on most of its desktop PCs to make way for nine PC models. Starting prices on the older models begin at $849. Separately, rival Dell Computer said it cut U.S. prices on selected models of Dell Precision workstations by up to 17%.
