* Boeing Co.’s largest engineering union said it will delay a strike scheduled for today after a federal mediator asked it to resume contract talks with the Seattle-based aerospace giant. The union, which represents about 10% of Boeing’s work force, said that it expects members to reject a three-year contract offer and that it is ready to strike if no progress is made. The talks are to resume next week.

* Adelphia Communications Corp. agreed to buy Los Angeles-area cable systems with 12,700 customers from closely held Liberty Cable for undisclosed terms. Based on the average price of $4,000 per subscriber in other cable acquisitions during the last year, Adelphia would pay about $51 million for the systems in Los Angeles County and the cities of South Gate and El Monte.
