Chechnya
In “Nothing Will Stop Putin’s War” (Commentary, Jan. 31), Edward Luttwak throws around irresponsible statements about a country: “A high percentage of Chechen males are potential guerrillas--it is a warrior culture.” Publishing a voice to support hurting civilians because there are no other tactics, according to Luttwak, is not the right thing to do. His associating criminals with Islamic fighters is nothing but hatred and racism.
The Chechens are like any other nation on our Earth, fighting for their independence, like other nations that used to be part of the former Soviet Union.
