Matador Women Fall Back, 72-66
Neda Milic of Cal State Northridge had 15 points, seven rebounds and three steals, but the Matadors lost to Idaho State, 72-66, in a Big Sky Conference women’s basketball game Thursday night in Pocatello, Idaho.
Defending conference champion Northridge (12-7, 6-3 in conference play) lost for the third time in four games and fell 1 1/2 games behind first-place Montana, a 73-62 winner over Cal State Sacramento.
Keisha Harris had 11 points, five rebounds and four blocked shots for Northridge, but the Matadors made only 40% of their shots and were outrebounded, 40-30.
Mandi Carver had 26 points, 12 rebounds and five blocked shots for Idaho State (8-12, 6-3).
COLLEGE VOLLEYBALL
Pepperdine d. Brigham Young, 15-12, 15-7, 15-12--Andre Breuer and Scott Wong each had 29 kills and the Waves (5-0, 3-0) defeated Brigham Young (7-3, 4-3) in a Mountain Pacific Sports Federation match at Pepperdine.
COLLEGE BASEBALL
The Master’s 16, Cal Christian 1--Seth Brewer doubled, tripled and drove in four runs for the Mustangs in a nonconference game at Master’s.
GIRLS’ SOCCER
Buena 1, Santa Barbara 0--Lisa Engel converted a penalty kick in the 65th minute as the host Bulldogs (26-0, 7-0) recorded a Channel League game victory.
Grant 8, Hollywood 0--Simone Knoff and Tanya Fingerov combined on the seventh shutout shutout for the Lancers in a Sunset Six League game at Grant. Erica Reisig scored twice and Knoff added a goal for Grant (9-1-1, 8-0).
Quartz Hill 1, Palmdale 0--Andrea Cabriales scored unassisted from 15 yards less than three minutes into the Golden League game, and Karen Comstock made four saves and for her seventh shutout for the host Rebels (15-1-2, 6-0-2).
BOYS’ SOCCER
Santa Barbara 4, Buena 3--Manuel Gonzalez scored the decisive goal in 59th minute for the Dons in a Channel League match at Santa Barbara.
Buena (12-6-3, 2-2-3) took a 3-1 halftime lead on two goals by Chris Parkin and one by Brad Workman.
