Forum to Focus on Marriage

* Trinity Lutheran Church in Simi Valley will have a Christian forum at 6:30 p.m. today focusing on ways to enhance marriage. Tips on nurturing a relationship will be given.

All Saints Offers Week of Activities

* All Saints Episcopal Church of Oxnard will have a week of activities beginning with a “Bread of Life” dinner in the parish hall at 5:30 p.m. today.

On Sunday, there will be worship services at 8 and 11 a.m. A Spanish worship service will be held at 9:30 a.m.

Christian education classes on Sunday will include a 9:30 a.m. adult lectionary Bible study led by the Rev. Warren V. Porter and a 10:30 a.m. Christian education for children led by Sunday School Supt. Cindy Morales.

A Christian Spirituality meeting will be held in the parish hall at 7:15 p.m. Tuesday.

There will be a Bible study class at 1:30 p.m. and a Holy Eucharist service in Our Lady of Guadalupe Chapel at 6 p.m. Wednesday.

Choir rehearsal will be in Our Lady of Guadalupe Chapel from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday.

A youth Bible study group will meet from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Friday.

Congregation to Hold Winter Social

* Congregation Am HaYam will have its third annual winter social featuring a hot buffet dinner, dessert bar, music and silent auction at the Oxnard Shores Mobile Home Park Clubhouse from 6 to 10 p.m. Sunday.

Art Exhibit to Open at CLU

* A mixed-media art exhibit titled “The Book of Revelation: Apocalypse” by A. Nancy Snooks will be on display Sunday through Feb. 27 at Cal Lutheran University’s Kwan Fong Gallery of Art and Culture in Thousand Oaks. A reception will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. today at the gallery.

Snooks, a printmaker and professor emeritus who has received international recognition for her art, works out of her studio in Ventura and lectures at the Carnegie Museum in Oxnard. She has been working on the Book of Revelation series for 30 years using a process that incorporates collage, drawings and photocopying.

Day of Worship, Games for Kids

* More than 1,000 sixth-, seventh- and eighth-graders from the Conejo Valley and Simi Valley are expected to converge on Calvary Community Church in Westlake Village today for a day of worship, music, discussion and games during “Take a Stand for Christ 2000.”

The event is a cooperative effort among area churches. Speakers include Francis Chan, senior pastor at Cornerstone Church in Simi Valley, and Tim Smith, pastor of Family Life at Calvary Community Church.

The event runs from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and includes breakfast and lunch.

The cost is $12 per person in advance and $15 at the door.

Communion Service at St. Paul’s

* St. Paul’s United Methodist Church in Oxnard will hear from the Rev. Alan P. Gorsline on “Turkeys and Eagles” during a communion service at 10:15 a.m. Sunday. There will be no Sunday School for the children so they can take communion. The Japanese ministry will also meet during the communion service with the English congregation.

Church Offers Seminar for Parents

* Calvary Community Church in Westlake Village will host “The Relaxed Parent Seminar” from 4 to 7:30 p.m. Sunday. The workshop aims at helping parents learn effective strategies for raising children ages 3 to 18.

The seminar costs $10 per person or $15 per couple and includes pizza and written materials. No pre-registration is required.

Pastor Tim Smith will lead the seminar. He is the author of several books, including “Family Traditions” and “The Relaxed Parent,” and presents seminars nationally.

Calvary Community Church is also changing its Sunday Celebration times to 9 and 11 a.m. beginning this week.

New School to Hold Open House

* Oaks Christian High School in Westlake Village will hold a family open house from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday in the gym.

Sermon Explores ‘Better Future’

* First Presbyterian Church of Oxnard will hold a worship service at 10 a.m. Sunday. Pastor James K. Bain Jr. will deliver the sermon, “It’s a Better Future” based on I Corinthians 9:16-23.

There will be Sunday School for the youths during the worship service. Adult Sunday School will be at 9 a.m.

‘Faith Talk’ Series Continues

* United Methodist Church in Simi Valley will hold communion services at 8 and 10 a.m. Sunday. The Rev. Brandon Cho will continue a sermon series titled “Faith Talk,” based on Matthew 11:28.

Women’s Conference in Ventura

* “Morality and Culture: Can Our Religious Ethics Transform Our World?” is the title of the third annual All Faiths Women of Vision Conference from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Ventura.

Irene Pinkard, vice president of the Ventura County Community College District, will speak at the opening session. Participants will choose two of 11 workshops that include “Youth Accepting Diversity,” “Teaching Children Moral Values and Character in Today’s Culture,” “Answering Ethical Dilemmas in Your Workplace,” “The Need to Talk to Each Other,” “Journalism Ethics,” “Legal Ethics,” “Ethics in Hollywood,” “Environment Responsibility” and “Ethical Dying.” The closing sermon includes gospel music, the Women of Vision Awards and an interfaith ceremony.

Author Becomes Part-Time Pastor

* David B. Smith, writer and producer of the Simi Valley-based Christian program “The Voice of Prophecy,” has become a part-time pastor of the Ojai Seventh-Day Adventist Church.

Smith, a Conejo Valley resident since 1985, is the author of religious books and children’s literature. His radio messages are heard Monday through Friday on KDAR in Oxnard.

Rabbi to Teach 5-Week Bible Class

* Congregation B’nai Emet in Simi Valley is offering a five-week Bible study class taught by Rabbi Michele Paskow.
