Stanford Defeats USC Women

Milena Flores scored 21 points and Jamie Carey added 14 as the Stanford women’s basketball team beat USC, 69-56, in a Pacific 10 Conference game Saturday.

Stanford, 14-5 overall and 7-2 in conference play, is tied with UCLA for first place in the conference.

USC (8-11, 3-6) played without injured starting center Tiffany Washington.

Flores scored 15 points in the first half. She made seven of 12 shots in the game and all six of her free throws.

Carey scored 11 points in the second half.

Stanford led, 30-29, at halftime.

The Cardinal was ahead, 51-47, after USC’s Erica Mashia made a three-point shot with 8:30 left.

But Carey made a basket to extend the lead to six, and Carolyn Moos followed with a three-pointer from the left corner to make the score 56-47 with 7:34 left.

Tashara Carter led USC with 19 points and Mashia finished with 16. Danielle Golay had nine.

Moos had 10 points and 11 rebounds for Stanford.

Each team had 21 turnovers.
