Hillary Clinton

Your Feb. 8 editorial would have us believe that Hillary Clinton is now on her own in the snake pit of New York politics in her campaign for the Senate. Wrong. She has the entire power of her husband’s federal apparatus to attack and discredit Rudolph Giuliani, and it will be used. It already began when Andrew Cuomo, secretary of Housing and Urban Development, seized control of $60 million in federal funds earmarked for New York and withheld from Giuliani.

The scandal of the FBI files used by the Clintons in their strategy against Republican opponents is only a small indication of things to come. The Clintons will use “their” Justice Department, already in their back pocket, to any length to further Hillary’s campaign.

Re your editorial: What is New York’s threat compared with the Republican Congress of hatchet men who swung away at her and her husband, as, in the past seven years, that menacing Congress threatened to cancel the validity of an American election and of the presidency itself?

Hillary Rodham Clinton endured the false charges of Whitewater by [former Sen.] Al D’Amato at his slimiest, as big a snake as any you will find in that snake pit among New Yorkers. Then there was the FBI files frame-up and the grand jury hearing, where she was exonerated.

Finally, as all else failed, that hellbent Republican Congress thought it found means for impeachment: illegally obtained information about an incident in the personal life of the president.

As a wife, Mrs. Clinton endured the embarrassment of the airing over and over again for months on end, in graphic detail, of her husband’s misdeed.

But she has emerged with her family and her marriage strong and intact and her keen mind set on service to the public.

New York will be a breeze!
